Main advantages: For the past few years we have always stayed at this hotel. We are always welcomed back and the reservations staff are always kind enough to respond positively to our room requests (we like to stay in the rooms with balconies overlooking the front or at the side overlooking the canal) where they possibly can. Please do thank them for giving us room 318 this time! Please also say hello to Rogier and Michael in the cocktail bar! After many trips to Amsterdam, a few years' ago we treated ourselves to staying at the Amsterdam American Hotel... now we can't stay anywhere else!

Amr Cairo, Egypt - Rest with children

Main disadvantages: First: water pressure in the bathrooms is week. In winter time it is even worth cause of the low flow of water in showers. Major Problem. Second:Towels are over used, needs to be changed.

Main advantages: The location of the hotel is excellent, breafast is good.

Main disadvantages: I thought that the breakfast was not good value. Have stayed at other hotels offering far more breakfast choices at a smaller price.

Main advantages: Lovely Art Deco designed hotel in a great location. Given its vintage it has some confounding flooring levels & locating the ice machines was, in itself, an adventure. Very helpful staff.

Main disadvantages: Check out is longer than it needs to be. Allow for express checkout with bill under your door night before departure, sign it and drop in a box.

Main advantages: The American Bar, especially Kilian, who after several weeks, remembers my name, my drink preference and where I liked to sit. Very professional young man.

Main disadvantages: We booked a double room, our bed was two singles pushed together with 2 single duvets

Main advantages: The staff were very friendly and informative, location superb and the bar has a good relaxed atmosphere. Our hotel room was spacious and clean and was the rest of the hotel.

Main disadvantages: The pressure in the shower was not so good. And the older smell just in the hallways

Main advantages: Is a very nice, old building! The location is great! A couple of minutes walking to the museums and center of Amsterdam and nice bars and resto for locals. The rooms are quite spacious and big!, The bedrooms are quite nice and clean.
