Main disadvantages: The stairs were very steep but we guess this is unavoidable if you
choose to stay in authentic style accommodation rather than
characterless western style hotels. We also missed having tea and coffee
making facilities in our room which seems to be a feature of all
European hotels.
Main advantages: The hotel is full of charm and character. It is located in a lovely area
and we were lucky enough to have a fantastic view of the canal and the
bridge directly in front of the hotel. The hotel is very well positioned
and the main sights are easily accessed by foot. It is also close to a
beautiful shopping area set in charming little side streets. We loved
the resident dog who was always waiting for a pat!

Main disadvantages: The walls were a bit thin and I could hear a couple having sex in the
room next door when they came in at around 3 am. I thought this was very
distasteful. Also, like most of these old canal houses, there are lots
of very steep stairs so if stairs are a problem, you should not stay at
this hotel.
Main advantages: The hotel is located on the world-famous Prinsengracht, where also the
Ann Frank House can be found a short walk away. The Wiechmann is a very
quaint, cosy hotel with an open fire and chiming clocks on the ground
floor. It even has a resident alsation dog, to add to the homely feel of
the place. My room was very clean indeed, with spotless sheets and
towels. I was fortunate enough to have a view over the Prinsengracht and
the canal.

Main advantages: We really loved our stay at the Wiechmann hotel- the staff were lovely, the room was spotlessly clean, spacious and warm with an excellent view of the canals (well worth the extra money for a view!). The location was perfect, and the reception staff gave us excellent directions and recommendations. I really can't fault our stay!

Main disadvantages: Very steep and narrow stairs. There's no lift, so you have to take the stairs every time. It wasn't a big deal the first time, but after being on your feet all day, walking up those stairs becomes tiresome.
Main advantages: Location is great. The hotel is located in "The Nine Streets" and was walking distance to downtown. Room was a bit cramped, but comfy. Staff was pleasant and helpful.

Main disadvantages: -Too expensive: 155 euros per night is pretty steep.
-Inflexible reservations policy: I had to change my reservation, and it was a huge hassle that came with increased costs.
-Breakfast a little skimpy: Although I thought breakfast was convenient, it was pretty skimpy, with the bare minimum options. It wasn't a bad breakfast, but it could be improved by adding yogurt, or pastries, or anything hot.
-No elevator: Hauling bags up three flights of stairs wasn't a deal-breaker for me, but it was pretty uncomfortable and dangerous.
Main advantages: -The location for the hotel was fantastic. Right downtown.
-The beds were softer than other beds I've had in other European hotels.
-The breakfast was convenient.
-Very clean rooms and bathrooms.
-Very nice shower
-Plenty of towels left for me

Main disadvantages: No elevator. We were on the third floor and it was a climb on very steep
and narrow stairs.
Main advantages: The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The room was small but met
our needs. We really only slept there. The breakfast area was bright and
airy with a great view of the canal. The breakfast was European
continental and ample. I would stay at the Wiechmann Hotel again because
of the price, location and staff.

Main disadvantages: The stairs are very steep - could be hard for old people.
Main advantages: Good location at the edge of the city center - close to all the tourist attractions, but very calm and quiet. If you get a room with canal view - it is just perfect, can feel the true spirit of Amsterdam. Nice lobby with the dog and old cannon. Breakfast and city tax is included - not common for Amsterdam hotels. Very comfortable bed, fast wireless internet.

Main disadvantages: We were on the third floor. The stairs were a bit scary at first, but we
got used to them.
Main advantages: The location was fantastic, we could walk everywhere, lots of places to
eat, close to the museums. The breakfast room looked out on the canal
and the food was great. The staff was helpful and friendly. We would
stay there again.

Mervyn Londonderry County Borough, United Kingdom - Group tour
Main disadvantages: Best to note very steep stairs. Difficult to clamber up with luggage.
This is however typical of Dutch Houses in that area.
Main advantages: Very quiet and relaxing. Breakfast was good although only cooked option
was boiled eggs. Maybe some sausages and/or bacon as an option would be
a welcomed addition for international guests. Would definitely stay
there again.

Main advantages: If you like a small, family-run, centrally located hotel with personality - this hotel is for you. Friendly staff, an old German Shepherd on premises (also friendly), OK breakfast, no fancy hotel services, no parking, very steep stairs similar to the Rembrandt House ones (17th century building, actually 5 of them combined into one hotel). It's stuffed with many interesting antique pieces including a ship cannon from the powerful West Indian Company, many beautiful Delft items, and other unexpected objects. Climb to the top, and you'll find a collection of antique Singer sewing machines. The breakfast room is in the former cafe in the corner building, so you can enjoy the view of the bridge and locals biking in high heels with one or two small kids... The location is great - quiet and lovely Jordaan district, not noisy and touristy area from the Central Station to Singel canal. Highly recommended.
