Main advantages: Generally good, individual rooms although we were unhappy with the first allocated room and consequently were transferred to an Editors Room. This was a fantastic upgrade with excellent views of the city.
Staff were friendly and helpful. We will make a point of returning when next in Edinburgh.

Main disadvantages: The room was very hot and the traffic noise from North Bridge prevented
openning a window for any length of time at night. The entertainment
system was initially quite baffling to use, but the staff were more than
happy to come and explain it (very promptly as well).
Main advantages: The staff were really excellent and gave a very personalised service
during my stay. Small touches like the turn-down service, where a bottle
of mineral water is put at your bed-side and morning paper, where an
accompanying weather forecast is included were all very much
appreciated. The room was very comfortable and the bed unbelievably
soft. The food was also excellent and I strongly recommend the full
Scottish breakfast from the breakast in bed menu.

Main disadvantages: This is not the first time I've stayed here. Each room is unique in
shape which is part of the charm of course but this time I didn't have
such a great room. It was quite dark and felt like I was in the attic.
Facilities/comfort were great nevertheless.

Main advantages: This hotel is not the cheapest, but the location is fantastic, the bar
was great after a day out and about, we also ate in the restaurant which
was really nice. In the room the mini bar was expensive but will
stocked. Would definatley book this hotel again.

Main disadvantages: The room got very hot and was a little stuffy after a whole night
there...the air conditioning wasn't working and you couldn't really open
the outer windows.

Main disadvantages: There was nothing to complain about. We thought that this was a fabulous place to stay and could not imagine anyone needing to complain.
Main advantages: Our trip was for a one night stay prior to a 3 night trip on the Royal Scotsman train. We were greeted by staff who arranged for our many pieces of luggage to be taken directly to our room. We checked in at reception and met very pleasant and efficient members of the team. Our room was wonderful, with plenty of space, a huge bed and a fabulous bathroom. It was very well furnished and small things like a hairdryer, iron, safe, mini bar and trouser press were there for our comfort. Unfortunately, we had a 'disaster' after having left the hotel for a few hours, but the staff at the Scotsman were fantastic and handled the situation perfectly. Thank you and we will return again sometime soon!

Main disadvantages: Having experienced breakfast in the dining room at 7.00 on our first morning, which was excellent, we were very disappointed with the service on the Sunday morning. We were delivered someone else's breakfast. We asked several times for our 'Scottish Plate', and having at last, received our porridge, after much badgering left the dining room without having eaten anything else.
Main advantages: We had an wonderful stay in the Scotsman Hotel. Our suite was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We had a cosy nightcap in the bar. All together it was a wonderful romantic weekend for my husband and I away from the children.

Main disadvantages: Lots. But perhaps all hotels in Edinburgh are similar, I have no comparisons. The rooms are tiny. I hardly fit in the shower. The bed was tiny and uncomfortable. The mini fridge hardly kept the drinks cool. Small tv, not really visible from the bed. Oldest decor and furniture I have ever seen.
Main advantages: Great location, very polite and helpfull staff.

Main disadvantages: The lift was exceptionally slow I thought. The corridors smelled absolutely awful sometimes. The room window drapes were unacceptably dusty at the top and dirty at the bottom. The carpet was not well fitted and seemed dowdy.
