Main advantages: I only stayed one night whilst my wife was a patient at the Furness General Hospital. My daughter booked the hotel on line, but rang the hotel to check it was ok for me to have a room on the ground floor, due to me having 2 hip replacements, she spoke to Kay, who was extremely helpful. Many thanks for all your help.

Mrs , - Group tour

Main advantages: We were in Barrow to attend a wedding at the Town Hall. Having looked at various hotels and b and Bs in the area we chose the Duke of Edinburgh for its proximity to the wedding venue and because it looked attractive and comfortable according to the website and was not over-priced. We were not disappointed. The room was comfortable, nicely presented and well-equipped. There was an excellent choice of food at breakfast - my husband enjoyed the kippers and I was delighted to find 'eggs Benedict' on the menu. The receptionist was extremely helpful in booking us a taxi to the Town Hall. We cannot comment about the bar as we did not use it.

Main advantages: We were very impressed with our room which was excellent. The bar and food were very good. The staff were professional and friendly. The hotel is in a good location for visiting the Lakes.

Main advantages: We booked a standard room but was upgraded to executive suite which was unexpected. Nice clean room, comfortable kingsize bed and powerful shower. We had our evening meal in the hotel restaurant that evening we arrived which was very enjoyable and good value. We were informed by our restaurant waiter of live entertainment happening that night in the 'Vault' in the hotel basement which was an added bonus. The next morning we had a hearty breakfast and when we came to settle our bill the receptionist was most helpful in printing a particular route to a place I wanted to visit that day. I can't fault it. Would stay again if I'm ever that way.

Main disadvantages: such a beautiful hotel but placed in the wrong area.

Main advantages: the hotel was lovely very "modern" and the room that we had was excellent. The staff went out of thier way for us and nothing was too much trouble.I would stay there again but now I know were it is situated I would be more prepared as there was nothing within the vacinity for us to do so therefore we had to travel out but that wasnt a problem.Would like to see a hotel similar to this actually in Winderemere or even Coniston. Would recommend the hotel but let people know that there is nothing to do there. Very enjoyable 3 days stay.

Main advantages: I stayed at the hotel for two nights with my partner. We were staying for a cheap getaway to the lake district and this hotel ticked all the boxes. Value for money was outstanding (we also had our room complementary upgraded) - food and breakfast facilities were a good standard and the staff were incredibly helpful. The hotel was clean and accommodating and facilities in the room perfectly up to scratch. All in all, a very pleasant stay indeed.

Main advantages: We only stayed one night but it was very comfortable and we had a nice meal in the Bistro. We enjoyed the breakfast and it set us up for a day on the golf course.
