In the beautiful countryside of the Cairngorm National Park, this luxury guest house has been awarded 5 stars by VisitScotland and 5 Gold Stars by the AA in 2009. Ard-na-Coille offers luxury accommodation and stunning views. It is in the heart of the Scottish Highlands and ideally located for skiing, sightseeing, walking, golfing or for a romantic break. Highland Wildlife Park is 10 minutes away and has a polar bear. The guest house is furnished to a very high standard and has many original features. Ard-na-Coille featured in the popular Monarch of the Glen BBC TV programme as Glenbogle Golf Club. Many cast members stayed in the guest house during filming.

Area information

Newtonmore is situated in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, surrounded by the Cairngorm, Monadhliath mountain ranges and the River Spey. It is one of the most beautiful areas of the Scottish Highlands. The Highland Folk Museum is 500 metres away.

Local outdoor pursuits include: golf, fishing, pony trekking, deer stalking, skiing, water sports, Highland games, bird watching, mountain biking and walking. You can also visit distilleries, castles and the steam railway.

Travel information

From Glasgow:
- Take the M80 to Stirling then the A9 to Perth.
From Edinburgh:
- Take M90 to Perth.
From Perth:
- Take the A9 north for Inverness, then the slip road to Newtonmore (A86).
- We are opposite the Highland Folk Museum, with electric entry gates.

Main disadvantages: The guest house is a very nice old country house that has been updated beautifully and kept on the luxurious side, but the fake plants and trees in the pots that surround the house are tacky, I could tell they were expensive fakes but still, the house and surroundings are beautiful; so why tacky them up! I would recommend replacing them with live boxwood or small firs!

Main advantages: The guest house is beautiful and very tastefully decorated on the luxurious side. The owners are a very friendly, helpful and courteous couple whom will look after your every need. Our breakfast was wonderful and so tasty. I would recommend the Special Breakfast with the owner's award winning sauce anyday! Our room was large with a beautiful view, with all the amenities and I noticed how quiet the guest house is; no noise of the other guest comings or goings and, there were no smells of past meals lingering about like in other guest houses we have stayed. Yes, we really would recommend this lovely place to other travellers.........

Main advantages: Comfortable facility with mini fridge, and although the hosts were not very knowledgeable on this point, there is an awesome hiking trail right at their door. The hosts are very nice.

Main disadvantages: Girlfriend found the land lady a bit spooky, we were the first to arrive on the day and it is fairly secluded on a hill so g/f refused to go into the house alone. The house was built in early 20th century as a summer retreat for some rich oilman so the place is quite spacious but a bit squeaky when the neighbors walk by. G/f said that next time she would prefer to come there for breakfast instead of staying over ;)

Main advantages: The two best things about this B&B are breakfast and a view. The room was quite decent too with the bathroom newly renovated.

Main disadvantages: No complaints, it was perfect!!!

Main advantages: Very comfortable, cozy hotel. Owners are very nice people who go out of their way to make your stay perfect. They indicated 2 great places to eat: little hotel restaurant and a goumet pub (Silver...) accross railway station. They give you a wonderful breakfast, have a big snooker table in common area. I payed 3 times more at the famous Fairmont Hotel in St. Andrews. If they cost the same, I would still prefer the Ard-na-Coille. Unforgettable experience!!! Might be back just to stay there again!

Main disadvantages: We did not like the artificial trees and plants that were both outside and inside. It is such a stunning house and beautiful countryside location that we thought they detracted from the setting. They were even at the front entrance which had such beautiful wrought iron gates. Apart from this small matter it was excellent.

Main advantages: The house was beautiful with lovely rooms, great views and good appointments. One of the few b and B's to have fridges in rooms. It was quiet and also had a lovely sitting and billiard room. The breakfast room was very well furnished and had a good selection for breakfast. There was even freshly baked muffins as well as a good choice of cooked breakfast.

Main disadvantages: Could be improved by providing a guest laundry, and a computer guests could use. For people on the road, these can be great assets.

Main advantages: Beautiful B&B where a lot of effort has been made to provide high quality accommodation. A lot of attention to detail has resulted in a memorable stay. Good parking on site and a first class breakfast provided cooked to your requirements. Comfortable bed and excellent facilities in the common areas, including a full size billiard table. Exceptional cleanliness. Shower facilities excellent. Very gracious hosts. Would go back there as apart from the high standard, it was also very competitive and excellent value for money. Certainly recommend to anyone travelling in Scotland.

Main disadvantages: I thought that Jacquie and Mike could have had a locked drinks cabinet, allowing the lounge area to be used by customers that wish to read a paper before or after breakfast

Main advantages: Mike and Jacquie love what they do and that is very obvious in the level of service that they provide. There is great pride in their work and this shows through the standard of accommodation and facilities that are presented. We didnt have to ask for anything because Mike and Jacquie were constantly a step ahead, . Excellent place to stay.

Main disadvantages: The only problem for us is that we planned to stay most of our time at the Inn and had counted on the room pictured on the website with plenty of sitting area and a table for us to do some work on. Indeed, the listing of our booking name is indeed for the larger room we expected 'Room 1'. I do not know why our room was different. Our room was much smaller, although it did have two comfortable chairs, and if we had been out during the day would have been excellent. The other problem is that the main rooms are very cold as they have only a small electric heater in them.

Main advantages: We enjoyed our stay very much as we were looking for a quiet time in beautiful countryside. The rooms are lovely and breakfast is excellent. The Innkeepers are a delightful couple who work hard to make their guests feel at home. The bed is very comfortable and the linens first class.
